The name Arruno is a combination of our children’s names – Arne, Ruben, and Noor. We are a family at home on the sea, together with Tallship Saeftinghe and our ship’s dog Babs. With over 28 years of experience as a captain and spending an average of 200 days a year at sea, Mike, Elly, their family and Saeftinghe have become synonymous with maritime expertise and adventure.
We have lost our hearts to the High North and the Arctic. As a young boy, Mike dreamed of sailing there and setting out on expeditions. That dream became reality – and today, we share that passion with everyone who sails with us.
The idea for Arruno Exploration was born during Mike’s years as a skipper in offshore sailing races and ocean voyages. He saw first-hand how, in challenging conditions, people learn to fully rely on each other. The sea humbles you, makes you vulnerable, but also forges deep bonds and drives personal growth.
In a world that moves ever faster, there is a growing need to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters. The sea offers the perfect setting: vast, honest, and always changing.
